Roads, cities and maps

Went yesterday to Resavska Pecina! Was there last year also with a good friend from England but wanted to see it again. So, my sweater ready because it is a cave! For the ones of you who don't know where it is, somewhere near Despotovac. In a beautiful area, Kucajske!
Beautiful yes, but why does the Governement allow to make this a shit-hole?

So everything ready to go, a sweater for inside the cold cave, maps, some food and a lot of water for the trip. As I was not planning to go over the highway I had eveything written down carefully. So the route was to be through Smederevo, Osipaonica, Lozovik and further south to Svilajnac and then to Despotovac. From there it is only a few kilometers more to the cave!

So the first part was easy as I live near Bulevar Kralja Aleksandra, formerly known as Bulevar Revolicija. Just follow that road and you end up at the local road to Smederevo. But then? Only signs for Pozarevac and nothing else. OK, let's follow that for a few kilometers and then follow the south road? Oh, then there are a lot of signs, perfect. But only pointing to the highway (Autoput) but not to any of the places I need! Ok, just drive on, maybe there will be a sign for another place called Petrovac? Another music channel suddenly turns up on the radio showing that we are really near Pozarevac. Ceca, Ceca and again Ceca. Desperately seeking some international music but no chance. Everything is taken over here by the local radio channels. In the meanwhile I finally manage to find a sign of Petrovac. Just follow that I think. But after 25 kilomteres of no sign of that city but many of Majdanpek, Kucevo I am sure that I am wrong and am heading to the Rumanian border. But then suddenly there is a sign that says Malo Crnice and that is on our route! Happily we drive on to finally find another sign of Petrovac!

Just think that we did not see any house the next 5 kilometers!!!

And even a sign of Zagubica which could eventually lead us to the cave! Just follow it, drive on, drive on, drive on. No music anmore in the highest part of the mounains here. But beautiful views. How long are we driving now? "oh, just over two hours". "Left, left!!!" Almost misses my turn to the left. The sign is placed half hidden behind bushes and ON the crossing, not even 3 meters before it. Good that I have a co-driver! Then, yes, then after almost 3 hours we see a sign of Resavska Pecina!
Just follow it but after almost 15 kilometers more I am sure we are wrong. So let's ask someone!
"about 5-6 kilometers back and on the bridge to the left" was the answer from a nice man enjoying his Rostilj in his weekend house.
And he was right. Missed again a sign which was ON the spot just after a sharp curve in the road.
Here it looks ok, but when you drive 60 per hour and just passing a curve it is quite suddenly!

So after almost 4 hours we arrived and had the wonderfull 25 minutes tour in Serbian language for 200 dinars per person. But it was worth it especially since the nice guide told me that for Zodiac "Net-News" (you have to say something isn't it?) I could make a few pictures! Nature is wonderful! It is worth going there and see Stalactites and Stalacmites in different forms. Did you know that 1 cm last 1000 years to be formed?

OK, back over the highway. Really recommended. To Belgrade only 1,5 hour instead of the almost 4 on local roads. Just before Svilajnac this: A train crosses and we have to wait a few seconds. When we can cross we have this beautiful view. A goat on the rail just after the train passed. What is it doing there?

And finally this.........And you think there is a sign who can pass first or even a traffic light?

The moral of this story? Please Serbian companies make good maps. And for the (local) Government put signs where they are needed and not behind bushes or just a meter before the turning point. To improve turism it could be good to think about signing not only the monasteries (because from that we have more then enough and on every corner it says which monastery we can visit) but also other attractions.
Have a good day and keep visiting this site but also come and have a drink in Zodiac!
